Explorando a ligação das Artes Plásticas à Natureza, este projecto surgiu em 1997 na sequência da actividade desenvolvida, desde o seu início, pela Casa da Cerca – Centro de Arte Contemporânea e que assumiu a Arte como protagonista e fonte motivadora.

Exploring the connection of Plastic Arts to Nature, this project appeared in 1997 as a result of activity, since its inception, the Around the House - Centre for Contemporary Art and Art took over as the protagonist and motivating source.

Em "O Chão das Artes", é feita uma abordagem às Artes Plásticas para além do produto final, procurando-se o seu entendimento, não do ponto de vista formal e conceptual, mas situando-se no plano específico dos materiais utilizados que dão origem a técnicas que, directa ou indirectamente, interferem na prática artística.
On "The Ground of Arts", is made an approach to the Arts in addition to the final product, looking up your mind, not from the standpoint of formal and conceptual, but standing in the specific plan of materials that give rise to technical which directly or indirectly interfere in artistic practice.

Este Jardim é uma iniciativa pioneira na especificidade da articulação destas duas vertentes – científica e artística – concretizado num projecto inspirado no modelo de jardim tradicional português de quinta de recreio que a própria Casa da Cerca foi outrora. Para além da Estufa, do Herbário e do anfiteatro ao ar livre, o Jardim organiza-se em torno de seis zonas estruturantes – Mata, Pomar das Gomas, Jardim dos Óleos, Jardim das Telas, Jardim dos Pigmentos e Jardim dos Pintores – onde se encontram espécie botânicas cujos componentes vegetais originam materiais que dão corpo e forma à realização artística.

This Garden is a pioneering initiative in the joint specificity of these two strands - science and art - embodied in a project modeled on the traditional Portuguese farmhouse garden pleasure that the House itself was once the Fence. Apart from the oven, the Herbarium and the outdoor amphitheater, the Garden is organized around six structural zones - forest, orchard of Gums, Oils Garden, Garden Screens, Garden of the Pigments & Garden Painters - where botanical species which are plant compounds originating materials that give shape and form to artistic achievement.
